The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) was framed and approved by the Government of India to transform and improve the quality of education in the country. One of the key aspects of NEP 2020 is “Internationalisation of Education”, which aims to promote and share best academic & research practices through interactions among diverse education systems.
In alignment with the vision of NEP 2020, University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued “UGC (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign High Educational Institutions in India) Regulations 2023” to facilitate the establishment of branch campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions (FHEIs) in India.
Further, International Financial Services Centres Authority (Setting Up and Operation of International Branch Campuses and Offshore Education Centres) Regulations, 2022 have been issued to facilitate the establishment of campuses of world-class foreign universities in GIFT City, Gujarat. Out of more than dozen universities slated to establish their campuses in India, 05 universities are currently operating.
1. Deakin University
Deakin University is an Australian public university with an overseas campus in GIFT city, Gujarat. The campus offers select postgraduate programmes in areas such as business analytics, cyber security, and information technology. 2. University of Wollongong
The University of Wollongong is an Australian public university that has established a campus in GIFT city, Gujarat. The campus provides degree programmes in disciplines including engineering, computing, and business. Academic delivery and assessment are aligned with the standards followed at its main campus. 3. University of Southampton
The University of Southampton is a public University in the United Kingdom and a member of the Russell Group. It has established a campus in Gurugram, Haryana offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in selected disciplines. 4. Queen’s University Belfast
Queen’s University Belfast is a public university in the United Kingdom with a campus presence in GIFT city, Gujarat. The campus offers programmes in areas such as business, data-related disciplines, and engineering, following curricula and quality assurance processes of the home institution. 5. University of York
The University of York is a public university in the United Kingdom that has established a campus in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
